Amaurosis fugax describes a temporary blindness of one eye, caused by an impaired blood circulation of the carotid artery. It usually lasts between 2 and 15 minutes; if it lasts more than 24 hours, it is called a retinal infarct.

When the condition occurs it is not known if it is the symptom of a temporary or a manifested impaired blood circulation, so it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor.
