Patients do not have any typical symptoms during the early stage of prostate cancer. At a later stage, they are mainly problems when passing water, such as urine drippling, frequent urination or blood in urine. Many patients also suffer from back pain and/or pelvic pain. Such pain occurs because prostate cancer preferably metastasises into the bones.
Frequent check-ups, including blood tests, rectal examination and rectal ultrasound can help to discover the prostate cancer early. After a sample extraction to confirm the diagnosis and to evaluate the tumor's level of malignancy, more tests are necessary to assess the disease progression. After all the findings are complete, the doctor will advise you if it should be treated with surgery, radio therapy or hormonal therapy. The 5-year-survival rate of early detected prostate cancers is 87%; it is one of the most curable cancer diseases.
