Women, elderly, and overweighted people are more likely to suffer from gallstones than men, young people, and people of average weight. Gallstones do not always cause complaints, especially when they are located in the gallbladder. When gallstones reach the bile duct and get stuck there, they can cause intense cramps and pains, usually on the right side of the upper abdomen. Gallstones rarely cause jaundice (icterus), which produces a yellow discoloration of the skin and the whites of the eyes. Gallstones can also cause inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis).
The primary treatment for cholecystitis consists of administering pain medication and observing the person affected. For gallstones that have clogged the bile duct, they can be removed via surgery. If the patient experience further stones, intense pain, then removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) may be an option.

Online bookable doctors in your area will be indicated with the notation “Book appointment” or “Book externally”, additionally they will be displayed on top of the list for your convenience.
